The Northern Marianas College Foundation plans to kickoff the observation of the institution’s 20th anniversary celebration with a special fundraising golf tournament at the Coral Ocean Point Resort Club on March 24.

Sign-in for the shotgun tournament will begin at 11am at the 18-hole championship golf course, with play to begin at 1pm.

The fundraising golf tournament will feature two watering stations and a variety of special prizes for play and participation and will be followed by an awards banquet for all participants alongside the pool at Coral Ocean Point.

The tournament fee for the event is $100, payable to the NMC Foundation, and can be made through Tony Satur at the Saipan Recreational Facility at NMC (234-5498, x2501), the Office of JM Guerrero and Associates in Fina Sisu (234-3533), or the Amigos Golf Club.

Participation is limited to 120 players and organizers are encouraging all golf enthusiasts to register early. The event is being co-chaired by foundation board members JM. Guerrero and Clarence Tenorio with assistance being provided by the Amigos Golf Club.

“On behalf of the NMC Foundation, we would like to thank Coral Ocean Point Resort Club and the Amigos Association for their support of higher education and willingness to help on the occasion of the college’s 20th birthday,” Mr. Guerrero said.

The non-profit NMC Foundation was established in 1997 to assist the college in “improving the quality of its educational programs and services by encouraging and obtaining private sector support and contributions.”

Its current president is Jerold Facey and the board includes Mr. Guerrero, Mr. Tenorio, CDA Board Chair Juan S. Tenorio, Jean D. Sablan, Fermin Atalig and Vince Seman.

The college foundation is planning to expand its membership from seven to 15 and those interested in helping to support higher education in the CNMI should contact Mr. Facey at 322-9753.

NMC was first formally established by an executive order issued by Gov. Carlos S. Camacho in 1981, then by a bill signed into law by Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio in 1983, and finally by constitutional amendment approved by the voters of the CNMI in 1985.

Throughout 2001, NMC will celebrate 20 years of service in providing postsecondary education to the people of the CNMI by sponsoring various events and activities intended to improve public awareness and understanding on the value of having an institution of higher learning.
