Program helps Filipino youths in the CNMI trace their roots

The Philippine Consulate General in the CNMI is inviting all Filipino youth in the CNMI to join a fun-filled learning journey toward the discovery of their roots and heritage through the annual program called Lakbay-Aral.

The Lakbay-Aral is a yearly activity organized by the Commission on Filipinos Overseas. Its goal is for participants to visit the Philippines and participate in a two-week program aimed at rediscovering their Filipino roots and heritage.

The program includes, among others, lectures on Philippine history, language, value and belief system, guided tours to scenic and historical landmarks in Luzon, Visayas or Mindanao; interaction with Filipino students, members of indigenous communities, government officials and community leaders as well as participation in traditional festivities.

The program hopes to provide the participants a greater awareness and appreciation of the rich Filipino heritage.

The proposed schedules for the Lakbay-Aral program for the year 2001 are as follows:

Lakbay-Aral sa Luzon: June 5-18, 2001 – $600

Manila-Corregidor-Subic-Pangasinan-Baguio-Sagada-Banaue

Lakbay-Aral sa Visayas: July 10-23, 2001 – $850

Manila-Corregidor-Bohol-Cebu-Palawan

Lakbay-Aral sa Mindanao: August 7-21, 2001 – $700

Manila-Corregidor-Sorsogon-Leyte-Surigao-Cagayan de Oro
