A good number of aspiring talents showed up during the first Annual CNMI Chinese Community karaoke competition held Sunday at the American Memorial Amphitheater.

The event, organized by the Saipan Chinese News and Power Young Publishing, gave away cash prizes to top amateur singing talents on the island.

Publisher Betty Bai said the Chinese community hopes to develop positive activities for talented Chinese guest workers through the singing competition.

“Many have great singing talent, and we’re encouraging them to share it and be recognized,” Ms. Bai said, adding that the competition enhanced the relationship between guest workers and the local community.

First prize winner received $1,000 cash prize while second and third placers received $800 and $500 respectively. More than 15 amateur singers joined the singing contest.

Major sponsors of the event include Verizon Pacifica, the Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association, Pacific Trading Miller Lite, and the Chinese Association of Saipan. (EGA)
