Microl Corporation cornered a lion’s share 51 percent of auto sales in February when it sold close to 70 percent more automobiles from the same period a year ago.

According to figures released by the Commonwealth Automotive Dealers’ Association, Microl sold a total of 44 units during the month enabling it to get ahead of Joeten Motors, which suffered a nearly 30 percent decrease in sales for February.

Joeten sold a total of 31 units that month, which translates to only a little over 30 percent market share.

Broken down, Microl was able to peddle a total of 25 cars, five trucks, three vans and 11 sports utility vehicles in the second month of the year. For its part, Joeten sold 17 cars, eight trucks, three vans and three sports utility vehicles last February.

The third wheel in the local auto dealership market, Triple “J” Motors, on the other hand, remained at third with total auto sales of 11 in February. Triple “J” sold four cars and seven sports utility vehicles during the period.

The auto dealership’s February figures represents over 12 percent of the entire auto market and represents close to a 38 percent rise from units sold in the same period last year.

Midway Motors, the fourth wheel, did not have new cars sales in February. However, it sold three used cars during the period bringing its total to six used car units sold for the year.

In 2000, Microl lorded it over the auto dealership market with an over 46 percent share. Joeten came in second at over 36 percent and Triple “J” was at third with more than 17 percent share of the market. Midway limped at fourth place with 0.4 percent share of the market.

Microl exclusively sells Toyota and General Motor automobiles at its showrooms. Joeten carries Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia models. Triple “J” peddles Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki and Subaru brands. While Midway sells Mazda.

Last year Toyota was the most popular brand of automobile sold in the Commonwealth. The Japanese automaker sold a total of 446 cars, trucks, vans and sports utility vehicles during the period.
