UOG held an SRO musical
The University of Guam’s spring musical, “I Lidendenduhendes” (The Legend of the Little People) was a resounding success, according to Saipan resident Katharyn Tuten-Puckett.
An original script, memorable music, and enthusiastic, well rehearsed performers all contributed to an exciting theatrical experience. As an advisor to the Pacific Storytelling Center (UOG Education Department), Ms. Tuten-Puckett attended the UOG Endowment Foundation’s fundraising dinner performance held April 5 at the university campus.
She enjoyed the play so much that she assisted with three additional performances over the weekend. “It was exciting to watch forty talented youngsters work with adult actors to bring Chamorro culture to life,” said Ms. Tuten-Puckett.
She is hopeful that the University of Guam will make this type of activity an annual event.
“I Lidendenduhendes” was adapted from a play written by Chamorro Language Instructor Peter Onedera. Benjie Diloa was the director and choreographer while Erwin Estaura provided the original score and musical direction.
Flora Baza Quan, Executive Director of the Guam Endowment Foundation Office, was the overall chairperson of the planning committee and wrote some of the Chamorro lyrics.
