Youths feted to a weekend retreat
Teenagers from the Marianas High School and Hopwood Jr. High School experienced an extra-ordinary weekend retreat to Managaha Island on Good Friday where the Life in the Son Fellowship held the kick-off to its three-day Youth on Fire activity
Over 40 children between the ages of 12 and 16 participated in the event where they listened to inspirational messages from youth speaker Rico Ricaforte, who came over from the Philippines.
Mr. Ricaforte advised the youth to turn away from bad habits and told them to not engage in pre-marital sex, smoking, drinking, illegal drugs and other distrustful acts.
The youth speaker also shared his personal relationship with Jesus Christ and how that friendship has resulted in a 180-degree change in his life. Mr. Ricaforte also lectured the children on the value of choosing the right path and not dilly-dallying on what clearly are the right decisions.
Mr. Ricaforte has held seminars that teach young people to develop personal convictions and resist pressure. He has traveled around the Philippines for seminars and was in Guam prior to his Saipan visit.
On Saturday, the retreat changed venue as it relocated to Pao-Pao Beach where a number of youths and a mother were baptized on its crystal clear waters. During lunch time, the participants partook of a pot-luck meal.
On Easter Sunday, it was the turn of Ms. CNMI Universe 1999 Cherlyn Cabrera to speak. In her testimony she shared her past struggles and how her personal relationship with Jesus Christ had made her a whole new person.
She also said that it was because of her new found faith that she was able to win the Ms. CNMI Universe crown. Ms. Cabrera noted that Jesus Christ guided her throughout the pageant, even during the time she wanted to back out.
Youth on Fire is an organization designed for teenagers and young adults. It holds seminars that teach students the secrets to getting better grades and as a result, getting better lives.
Life in the Son is a non-denominational church group which holds its Sunday service starting at 10 am on its facility on the second floor of the PDN Building, just across Lil’ Frosty Boy along Middle Road.
