Search on for great overseas Filipinos
ABS-CBN and UGAT Foundation are once again launching the search for Bayaning Filipino Awards now dubbed as the Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. The search’s primary objective is to enhance the Filipino value system and to recognize those who are helping the grassroots.
“This year the celebration of our renewed Philippine independence as inspired by the spirit of EDSA II, we would like to continue conferring due national recognition to the everyday, unheralded people who with what little they have, still choose to share themselves in genuine service to their fellowmen,” Project Director Fr. Nilo Tanalega, SJ, said.
Past Bayaning Filipino Awards have been successful in searching for Filipinos in the country and abroad who are role models in their own little ways.
There are about 20,000 overseas Filipino workers employed in the Northern Marianas, most have gained praises from both Filipinos and foreigners alike.
The Gawad Geny Lopez Jr. screening committee will use five criteria in choosing this year’s recipients of the prestigious award. Under this set of criteria, the nominee should have social responsibility; should be hardworking, industrious and disciplined; should have moral integrity and social acceptability; should show deep love of family; and deep love of country.
Interested applicants can mail the details of their criteria and awards and nomination forms to the search’s coordinator in the Commonwealth, Pastor B. Gagaring, at P.O. Box 503894 Saipan, MP 96950.
Mr. Gagaring can also be reached at telephone numbers 233-4095, 233-2374 and 236-5514. All forms must be submitted before June 15, 2001. (MR)
