Hoosiers keep untainted record in youth tourney
Chalan Kanoa Hoosiers behind a balance attack from its players routed Dare Outlaws, 77-38, in the continuation of the semifinals of the Islandwide Village Youth Basketball League at the Ada Gym.
League scoring leader Chris Villacruisis scored only 22 points, three points below his 25 point average, but still led the Hoosiers who charged to a commanding 35-16 lead in the first half. Villacruisis was ably supported by M. Reyes and Louis Reyes, who had 16 points and 11 points, respectively. The lackadaisical Outlaws were lead by Lawrence Limes’ 12 points.
The Hoosiers improved their immaculate win-loss record to 5 and 0, while keeping the Outlaws winless in four outings.
In the third game of last Saturday’s four matches, the San Antonio Sixers vanquished cellar-dwelling Tanapag Warriors, 58-32. Jack Sanchez and Adrian Echon top scored for the Sixers with 12 points a piece. The hapless Warriors were led by Donald Seidler’s 12 markers.
With the win, the Sixers improved to 3-2, while further miring the Warriors down the standings with a 0-5 record.
Garapan Verizon, on the other hand, emerged victorious in its game against the Dare Regulators, winning 38-27. Verizon was led by Richard Pierce’s 17 points, while Derrick Omengebar and Kevin Cequena scored 16 points a piece. The losing team was led by Treat Kaipat’s game high 21 points.
Verizon improved to 4-2, while Regulators slid to 2-3. The other game of the weekend saw Dan Dan Blazers won by forfeiture against the Dare Enforcers.
The Islandwide Village Youth Basketball League once again resume this Saturday with four games to be played.
In related news, Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands President Abner Venus has scheduled a very important meeting for coaches of the BANMI 22 and Under League. Mr. Venus said the meeting will start promptly at 5:30 pm at the Ada Gym Conference Room.
