Tudela vows a cleaner Saipan
Men and women in green t-shirts carrying trash bags, bush cutters, chainsaws, and rakes from the Saipan Mayor’s Office trooped to Beach Road in Garapan for a cleanup program Saturday.
The cleanup was supposed to be an all-day event but with overcast clouds and heavy rainfall late morning, the Mayor’s island beautification work had to be called off for the rest of the day.
In line with his administration’s commitment to beautify the entire island, Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela hopes to make the cleanup program a regular weekend event.
“A lot of work is needed to beautify our island but I will do it,” said Tudela.
In his first three months in office, Tudela’s work crews can be seen picking up trash, cutting over-hanging tree branches and trimming overgrown weeds along the secondary roads.
The most recent beautification project done was at the Mt. Tapochao, which coincided with the observance of the Holy Week.
Last week, Tudela’s staff worked along Beach Road in the intersection of the Mobil gas station in Oleai all the way to the village’s elementary school. Work crews were also assigned to cut the overgrown grass next to the Horiguchi building in Garapan.
