Grant athletes administrative leave – Babauta
Gov. Juan Nekkai Babauta is really going all-out in his support of the Commonwealth’s participation in the 2002 Micronesian Games scheduled from July 21 to August 1, 2002 in Pohnpei.
In a letter addressed to all department and activity heads of the Executive Branch last week, Babauta urged them to grant administrative leave of absences for athletes, coaches and officials going to the biennial meet.
“I strongly urge that all those in the Executive Branch having approval/disapproval authority favorably consider granting administrative [leave of absences to concerned athletes].
Citing that Department and Activity Heads have the authority to grant or deny Administrative Leave, based on an employee’s past performance and attendance, Babauta nevertheless asked them to award the favor.

The CNMI’s top executive also extended the same message to officers not under the Executive Branch. “I also hope that those outside the Executive Branch having similar authority would do likewise.”
The regional games in Pohnpei will see the CNMI participating in wide-ranging sports events from athletics, baseball, basketball, outrigger canoe racing, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, wrestling, weightlifting, spear fishing and Micronesian All-Around.
