Chris Idip of the Saipan Red All-Stars was named the Most Valuable Player of the recent Marianas Invitational Basketball Tournament in Rota.

Idip finished the tournament averaging a whopping 24.8 points per game, which included a 33-point outburst in the championship game against Guam.

Coach Rufino Aguon had nothing but positive comments about the All-Star guard.

“In the three years that I’ve coached Chris, I knew that he could play better, and in that championship game against Guam, he showed it,” said a very proud Aguon. “Let me put it this way, they [Guam] pissed him off, he became unstoppable, and it made my job a little easier.”

Apart from his stint in the MIBT, Idip along with a number of Red teammates will represent the CNMI in the 2002 Micronesian Games in Pohnpei this July.

Including the MIBT crown and MVP citation, Idip has collected a number of awards including the Rotary Club championship to go along with his playoff MVP trophy and a runner-up finish for NMC Proa in the Pepsi Cola 25-and-under Basketball League.
