Cover Girls are 2002 Rocball champs

Cover Girls stamped their class in the 2002 season of the Rocball tournament sweeping Carokese in their championship series last Saturday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
They massacred their opponents 88-57 in the second game after bamboozling Carokese to the tune of 43-22 win in the opener, both played in the same day.
In a high scoring second game, the Cover Girls won a tight first set, 25-17. Both teams played hard and with a lot of intensity, but the Cover Girls were able to squeeze out the victory.
However, Carokese wouldn’t go down easily as they stormed back to win the second set, 22-18.
Carokese tried to continue their hot streak in the third set, but the Cover Girls were just too much to handle as they took the set with ease, 23-10.
Cover Girls took their momentum into the fourth set and had no trouble putting away the game, 22-8.
Somol was impressive as she finished as the game’s heavy hitter with 2 aces, 3 kees, 1 goal, and 3 jams for 16 points. Teammate Sharma Iginoef also had a solid outing as she finished with 2 aces, 3 kees, a goal, and a jam for 14 points.
Tashia Kapileo led the way for Carokese with 5 aces, 2 xunks, and a kee for 16 points.
In the first game of the finals, Cover Girls quickly got off to a good start and made a statement as they blew past their rival team, 12-0.
They continued their aggressive intensity in the second set as they showed no weakness en route to a 15-5 win.
But Carokese was not intimidated, and finally found their rhythm as they won the third set in convincing manner, 14-3.
They had the chance to force the game into o-kon with a fourth set win, but Cover Girls’ Jennifer Somol had other plans, leading her team to victory, 13-3.
Somol and teammate Mary Natachuo were the games heavy hitters as each of them finished with 10 points. Somol had 2 aces, a, kee, a goal, and a jam, while Natachuo had 4 aces and a kee.
