Espiritu, Villanueva top Budweiser pool
Roger Espiritu and Rolly Villanueva topped last week’s regular pool tournaments held at the Corner Pocket Pool Bar in Garapan.
Villanueva beat Senen Pangilinan twice in the finals to win the Budweiser 8-Ball Pool Challenge Tuesday night.
Villanueva had earlier lost to Pangilinan in the first round after beating Ken Phillips. But the Golden Lobster employee swept his remaining games over Vic S. Hocog, Oscar Chua and Roger Espiritu to earn the right to face Pangilinan.
Pangilinan on the other hand played a brilliant game as he discarded opponents one after another: Chua, Villanueva, and Espiritu. He however failed to win even one tournament-clinching game against Villanueva in the finals so he settled for second place. Espiritu for his part placed third.
The 8-Ball weekly competition is sponsored by Marpac and organized by Corner Pocket Pool Bar every Tuesday.
It is played on a double round format wherein the top three players collect 50 percent, 30 percent and 20 percent, respectively, of the total entry fees collected.
Meanwhile, Espiritu won the Budweiser 9-Ball Pool Challenge via a lopsided, 4-2 win also over Pangilinan Monday night.
The 9-Ball billiards event, also sponsored by Marpac, is played on a single elimination format with the two unbeaten game winners advancing to the finals to vie for the prize pot.
