Red Cross volunteers in action
Volunteers of the NMI Chapter of the American Red Cross assisted in an apartment fire last April 20 at 5:30am near the San Antonio church. The Red Cross prepares, plans for, and responds to all disasters all year round.
Emergency Services Director Ariel R. Dumapit said 103 garment factory workers reside in the apartment. “As expected, our volunteers arrived on time ready to help. We assisted those individuals with verified emergency needs.”
For this alone, the NMI Chapter provided more than $27,000 in assistance to the victims for food, clothing, comfort kits and other personal belongings. The volunteers also responded and provided drinking water to the emergency personnel from the Fire Department, the Emergency Management Office and the Department of Public Safety.
“We sincerely thank the volunteers and the donors for their continued support, without them we would not be able to help all those who are in need.” he added.
The disaster relief provided by the NMI Chapter of the American Red Cross is free of charge, as a gift from the American people and the people of the Commonwealth.
Anyone who wishes to make a monetary contribution to the NMI Chapter of the American Red Cross may do so by dropping by at their office near the Saipan airport, or by mailing a check to PO Box 500814 Saipan, MP 96950.
