The Marianas Visitors Authority is finalizing plans for the Commonwealth’s biggest food extravaganza – the Taste of the Marianas Festival –next month at the American Memorial Park, in line with the celebration of May as NMI Tourism Month.

MVA acting managing director Vicky Benavente said this year’s Taste of the Marianas International Food and Beer Festival will showcase the best of the islands’ dishes, featuring the expertise of chefs from various restaurants throughout the CNMI.

“This is going to be grand just like the previous ones,” said Benavente in an interview.

She said plans are being concretized, particularly the number of food establishments that will be allowed to participate, as well as the lineup of entertainers and performers for the month-long festivities.

The Taste of the Marianas International Food and Beer Festival will feature local and international dishes from different hotels and restaurants around the island.

The festival will be held at the American Memorial Park every Saturday night of next month.

The festival will coincide with Japan’s Golden Week Holiday scheduled between April 27 and May 6, where an estimated 36,000 Japanese travelers are expected to arrive in the CNMI and Guam.

According to the Japan Travel Bureau, some 509,000 Japanese travelers are expected to take overseas trips during the Golden Week Holiday: 287,000 will be traveling to Asian destinations; 131,000 will go to North American destinations, including Hawaii, Guam, the U.S. mainland, the CNMI, and Canada; 71,000 will travel to European countries; and 26,000 are anticipated to visit destinations in Oceania.
