Preparations for the upcoming Liberation Day Festival shifted to a high gear as the Steering Committee intensified efforts to lure more participants to this year’s float competition.

Float and Parade Committee Chair Frank S. Guerrero yesterday urged all interested businesses, nonprofit organizations, marchers, and drill teams to participate in this year’s float competition.

He said the committee will sponsor a float contest and parade, where winners can bring home cash prizes ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. Entry fee is free and consolation prizes will also be given away.

Guerrero urged members of the community to take part in the upcoming festival and submit their application forms to the Office of the Saipan Mayor. Forms are available at the SMO.

Participants have until June 7, 2002 at 4:30pm to submit their application forms.

The committee bats for tourism-oriented floats and set-up for this year’s celebration, in hopes to further promote the CNMI’s tourism industry.
