Verizon Pacifica has invited acting governor Diego T. Benavente, Board of Education Chair Herman T. Guerrero, Education Commissioner Rita H. Inos, and Public School System E-Rate consultant Dr. Norman Okamura from the University of Hawaii-Manoa to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of fourth year of the E-Rate Communications Wiring Project.

E-Rate is a federally supported program that allows rural schools and libraries to afford the technological necessities that are part of the Information Age.

Verizon Pacifica has received a contract from the PSS to provide over $1.177 million worth of materials and labor to upgrade inside wire and cabling facilities throughout the CNMI school system.

This E-Rate funding is provided by the Schools and Libraries Division of the Universal Service Administration Company. The Federal Communications Commission monitors and provides guidelines to all U.S. telephone carriers that are required to participate in Universal Service Funds collection and deposits.
