The Miller Light Brewers kept pace with the Marpac Pirates for the No. 1 spot in the Saipan Major League with an 11-1, 10-run mercy rule victory against the Northern Yankees last Friday at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

The Brewers were hot at the plate as they tortured the Yankees pitching staff for an incredible 17 hits in the game.

The Yankees were actually ahead at one point of the game after designated hitter Sid Camacho drove Mel Sakisat on a sacrifice fly in the second inning.

Unfortunately for them, that was the first and last run they would score off Brewers ace pitcher Roy Celis.

The Brewers didn’t get on the scoreboard until the fourth inning. Power hitter Jerome Delo Santos led off the inning with a double, and later scored on an RBI fielders choice by Jess Mesa.

The run was a little sign of things to come in the game for the Brewers.

In the fifth inning, they erupted for 3 more runs, one of them courtesy of a wild pitch by Yankees pitcher Chris Camacho. The pitch enabled shortstop Jester Garcia, who reached base on an RBI double, to score.

With 2 outs, center fielder Tony Camacho reached base on a solid single, and later scored on an RBI double by Manny Sablan.

After being shutdown in the sixth inning, the Brewers came back to life in the seventh scoring 4 runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead.

Not satisfied with their 7-run advantage, the Brewers continued their hot streak at the plate as they added 3 more runs in the eighth inning.

While the Brewers were pounding the ball offensively, the Yankees were ice cold as they combined for just 4 hits in 25 at bats.

Celis was on top of his game as he pitched another complete game for the win. He allowed only a run while striking out 7 batters. Celis leads the league with a perfect 5-0 record on the mound. He has also accumulated 32 strikeouts.

Delo Santos was outstanding at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance. He also had 2 runs and a double. Camacho also had a solid game as he went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, while Garcia finished with a 2-for-5 outing with a run and an RBI.
