The Managaha Heat, Lost Boyz, Bootylicious and Lost Girls all posted victories in the opening night of the Saipan Amateur Volleyball Association Island-Wide Volleyball League last Monday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
In the first game of the men’s division, the Heat quickly recorded their first win with a two-set victory over the Hammers, 25-21 and 25-23.
The second game featured a tough battle between the Lost Boyz and a young but determined Ghasias Boys.
The Lost Boyz easily took the first set, 25-16, but in the second set, the tough Ghasias squad bounced back and trounced their opponents with a 25-14 win.
The third set was filled with long rallies and monster kills by both teams. The set was so closely fought that it livened the crowd. The momentum shifted back and forth as both Freddy Peliseman and Jonas Barcinas smacked a couple of hard kills, but the Lost Boyz would pull out the win via a 27-25 score.
The Lost Girls opened up the women’s division with a two set victory over Laly, 25-16 and 25-12.
In the second game, Percy Torres-led Bootylicious to a two-set victory, 25-10 and 25-16. Torres was unstoppable in the service area as she nailed 8 aces, 6 of them consecutively to end the first set. In the second set, teammate Lani Buekis picked up where Torres left off as she contributed with 4 aces.
