SAIWAI celebrates World Walking Day with Marpi walk
The Saipan Walking Association Inc. will celebrate World Walking Day this Sunday, May 16, with a 10-kilometer walk starting from Suicide Cliff in Mt. Marpi to Pau Pau Beach in San Roque.
SAIWAI secretary Mario Espeleta said the theme of this year’s celebrations is “Worldwide embrace in the spirit of fun, fitness, and friendship.” He also said that the local walking club would be commemorating the event together with associations from over 30 other countries around the world.
“This event will give participants yet another breathtaking view of the northern part of Saipan and will run through the pathway from Suicide Cliff to Pau Pau Beach. I hope all walking enthusiasts come up to Mt. Marpi this Sunday and join us in celebrating World Walking Day,” Espeleta said.
He added that transportation would be provided so participants could come back for their vehicles on Suicide Cliff from Pau Pau Beach.
Registration for the event starts at 6pm and entry fee is $6. The entry fee will cover the cost of t-shirts and refreshments.
Like all SAIWAI activities, the International Federation of Popular Sports or IVV will be sanctioning the World Walking Day Walk.
IVV members will receive credit for joining the event. The IVV has member walking clubs in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, the CNMI and 29 other European countries.
