Another fun-filled event is expected to unfold at the American Memorial Park tomorrow as the opening night of the 6th Annual Taste of the Marianas takes center stage.

The event will be held for the next five Saturdays from 6pm to 10pm at the park’s Bell Tower Field and will feature various live entertainment, competitions, and 18 vendors as part of its International Food Festival and Beer Garden celebration.

According to Ed Johnson of Marianas Visitors Authority, all items being sold during the event will be purchased with tokens.

“Money must be exchanged for tokens, with each token worth a dollar,” he said. As for the vendors, they are from top quality restaurants and hotels. You get to taste different specialties.”

Highlighting tomorrow’s event is the annual Bartenders Cocktail competition, which will run from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

According to Johnson, the night will also feature four live entertainment groups. Scheduled to take the stage are the Big Beats Band, the Isa Dancers, Wellipaal Dancers, and The Ali’is.

The event resumes on May 22, which will be highlighted by the Spicy Titiyas Eating and the Coco-making contests.

The CNMI Taga Chef competition will be held on May 29 while June 5 will feature a barbecue competition as well as a carving competition.

The final day of the event, June 12, will feature an eating contest.

More musical and dancing performance groups have been contacted for entertainment every night.

Johnson also said T-shirts and beer coolies will be sold during the event.

Johnson also thanked several government agencies for their assistance in the preparation for the event. “We definitely want to extend our appreciation to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., Division of Parks and Recreation of the [Department of Land and Natural Resources], and the Department of Public Safety,” he said. “They’ve been of great assistance.”

The event is hosted by the MVA as part of activities geared to promote May as Tourism Month.
