Brewers demoralize D-9ers

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, as the Miller Lite Brewers dismantled, destroyed, and demoralized the D-9ers Wednesday night, in the continuation of Saipan Major League Baseball at the Francisco M. Palacios baseball field.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, as the Miller Lite Brewers dismantled, destroyed, and demoralized the D-9ers Wednesday night, in the continuation of Saipan Major League Baseball at the Francisco M. Palacios baseball field.

This was definitely one that the D-9ers would soon like to forget, being shelled for 33 runs in an agonizing seven innings of pain. The Brewers on the other hand were the beneficiaries of some quality batting practice as they moved to within a half game of the Northern Yankees with a record of 6-3.

The Brew crew went all out early, scoring four runs in the first inning, seven in the second, and getting just plain ridiculous in the third, crossing the plate 16 times. Over the next four innings they would score six more runs, but they were just killing time until the 10-run mercy rule took effect in the seventh inning.

Getting it started in the first inning was D9ers pitcher Paul Camacho walking Jester Garcia and Tony Celis. JR Suel, followed up by knocking Celis home. That was all it took to get the avalanche started as Suel, Tony Camacho, and Manny Sablan gave the Brewers more runs in the first than the D-9ers would score in the entire game.

Niner-time went down 1-2-3 via good fielding and a Bobby Castro strikeout, and it was time for more BP. Everybody on the Brewers crossed the plate except for Manny Sablan and Frances George. Punctuating a seven-run second inning was Bruce Norita, who knocked the cover off of the ball for his second time this season.

Down 11-0, the D-9ers managed to put a point on the board as Lenwayne Maratita crossed the plate, and the inning ended 11-1. This would have been a great time to make use of the 10-run rule, which would end the game when one team has 10 or more runs more than their opponent at the end of the inning. The only problem is that the rule cannot take effect until the seventh inning.

The bat happy Brewers came up to bat. And then again, and again, and again. All in all, they would come to the plate 20 times in the third. The productive inning saw the Brewers players retire an opposing pitcher, finish a book, do their laundry, and catch up with all of the things that they’ve been meaning to do around the house on their way to scoring 16 runs.

When the barrage finally ended, the Brewers were up 27-1. Not to be outdone, the D-9ers answered back, scoring a run of their own. Bulbs on the scoreboard that have never before been used got their chance to shine as the teams moved into the fourth inning, 27-2.

This would have been a great time to make use of the 20-run mercy rule, which ends the game at the conclusion of an inning when one team as an advantage of 20 runs over their opponent. This rule does not exist in baseball, but it should.

The Brewers went on to pad the stats, scoring an additional six runs, while the 0-7 D-9ers rallied in the seventh when Paul Camacho crossed the plate. Final score, Brewers 33, D-9ers 3.

SML action continues Friday night, as the Yankees take on the Pirates at the Francisco M. Palacios field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
