Big names tee off in Rotary golf tomorrow
Saipan’s top golfers will tee off in the 6th Annual Rotary Club of Saipan Goodwill Golf Tournament set for tomorrow at the Coral Ocean Point Resort Golf Course.
Among the big names expected to vie for the title in the Championship Flight are certified par-busters Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho, Tony Satur, and Eddie Peter.
Giving the trio a run for their money are Suva South Pacific Games teammates Joji Taguchi and Nick Sablan as well as veteran Sonny Flores and up-and-coming golfer Sasaki Oliver.
A total of six flights are up for grabs in the tournament. Aside from the Championship Flight for players with 0-8 handicap, the tournament would also have an A Flight for players with 9-13 handicap, a B Flight for players 14-18 handicap, a C Flight for players 19 handicap and up, a Ladies Flight, and a Seniors Flight for golfers 55 years old and up.
First place in each category receives $500 and a trophy, while second place and third place takes home $300 and $200, respectively, plus trophies.
This year’s Rotary golf bash has been made more interesting with the addition of a super-sized 12-inch in diameter hole-in-one in the three-par hole No. 7 sponsored by the Rotary Club of Saipan.
Any golfer who comes up with an ace in the seventh hole is guaranteed a payday of $5,000. In an event more than one player make the hole-in-one the prize money will be divided among them.
Other hole-in-one prizes at stake in the tournament are a sedan from Microl Toyota on hole No. 3; $20,000 in cash from Bank of Hawaii on hole No. 12; and another car courtesy of Triple J. Motors on hole No. 14.
A maximum of 144 players are expected to join the golf event. Showtime is set at 10:30am and shotgun start begins at exactly 12pm.
