Palacios earns medical degree

Layla Marie Palacios Corral continues to reap success in the U.S. mainland after completing her medical degree in Arizona last May 14.

The Palacios family on Saipan disclosed Friday that Layla, 28, graduated from the University of Arizona Friday and would soon begin her General Surgery residency at the University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona, in July 2004.

Layla, daughter of Jay Corral and Antonia Palacios of Chalan Kanoa, completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology and entered the College of Medicine in the fall of 2000 at the University of Arizona. In July, she would embark on her general surgery residency to fulfill her long-time dream of becoming a surgeon.

“We now have a doctor in the family and we are so proud of her. We would like to congratulate her,” Jesse and Glen and the entire Palacios family said.

Layla was born in Arizona and completed her high school at the Coronado High School in Scottsville. Born in 1976 and turning 28 in November, the Palacios family said that by Layla’s early 30’s, she would complete her residency.
