The Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association media coordinator Dr. Mohammad Ashraf is calling on the tennis-playing public to come out and sign up for this year’s staging of the DFS Micronesian Tennis Championships.

Ashraf, who also serves as tournament director, said aside from the top-level competition expected in the tournament, players are also guaranteed a fun time during the duration of the event.

He said host Pacific Islands Club will be offering free waterpark passes for participants and the tournament will wrap up in grand style with an awards banquet.

“It’s going to be a great two weekends of tennis competition. I hope to see as many people as possible. This is going to be an exciting tournament,” added Ashraf.

The 23rd Annual DFS Micronesian Tennis Championships is slated to start this coming Friday, May 21.

The tournament will be held on two weekends May 21-23 and May 29-31. The first weekend will feature action in the adult doubles and junior singles, while the second week will be for adult singles and junior doubles.

Up for grabs in the doubles competition are men’s open, men’s 4.0, men’s 3.0 and men’s 40-and-over doubles. Junior doubles consist of boys and girls 18-and-under, and boys and girls 12-and-under. There will also be mixed doubles events in the open and 3.0 divisions.

Singles play will have eight divisions. They are women’s open and 3.0 and boys and girls 18-and-under, boys and girls 14-and-under, and boys and girls 10-and-under.

Tournament headquarters is at PIC and entry forms are available at Las Vegas Discount Golf & Tennis and at the American Memorial Park. Entry fee is $18 for non-members and $15 for members in the adult divisions.

Ashraf is also reminding those interested that entries for the adult doubles and junior singles are due today, May 17, at 5pm, while the deadline for adult singles and junior doubles is next Monday, May 22 at 3pm.
