CUC asked to pay for leased vehicles
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has not paid a local dealer for leased vehicles despite the board’s order to go ahead with the payment since March this year.
In a May 10, 2004 letter to the CUC board, Midpac general manager Gene Weaver complained that “this issue has been dragged on too long.”
“As of date, final payment for the leased vehicles has yet to be received. While in attendance at one of the board meetings, I had voiced my concern regarding this matter. I attended the meeting because it was published in the newspaper that the CUC has agreed to purchase the vehicles,” said Weaver.
Last month, Weaver told the board that he only learned about the CUC’s decision to purchase from news reports.
He said his office had never received any formal communication from the CUC management on the issue.
Likewise, he had said that his office repeatedly called the CUC on the issue but it failed to respond accordingly.
Weaver said the CUC’s action on the matter is most needed “to close our books.”
“I would like to close our books on the leased vehicles and put this behind us and move forward,” said Weaver.
In a special meeting in March, the CUC board approved the management’s request to approve the purchase of heavy equipment, which included about seven vehicles that have been leased by Midpac to CUC for five years.
The lease contracts for the vehicles had reportedly expired.
“They are still in good condition,” reported CUC executive director Lorraine A. Babauta to the board.
