Marianas Softball Cup kicks off June 4
Start warming up the arms and oiling up the mitts because the 2nd Annual Miller Lite Marianas Softball Cup is back again this year, and this year’s winning team will take home more than the $500 prize.
Beginning Friday, June 4, teams from all over Saipan will compete for the championship and the chance to represent the island against Guam later in the month.
According to the president of the Saipan Softball Association, Bob Guerrero, somewhere between 14 and 18 teams will square off in the preliminary tournament.
The teams will be limited to a maximum of 15 players and a female must be on the field at all times in the modified coed tourney.
The registration fee of $150 will take care of all of the tournament expenses, and each of the players will receive a t-shirt. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams, with only the winner able to advance to the final tournament that features the best from Tinian, Rota and Guam. Saipan will once again play host for the finals on Sunday, June 26.
There will also be a tournament meeting next Tuesday, June 1, to be held in the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
The softball tournament action starts at 6:30pm Friday, June 4, and continue throughout the weekend, with the finals to be played on Sunday June 6.
All of the games will be played at the Oleai Sports Complex. For more information about the tournament, or to register your team, contact Bob Guerrero by calling either 235-1580 or 888-0215.
