Agriculture Fair Silver Jubilee kicks off today
After months of preparation, the Saipan Agriculture Fair Association, along with proud sponsors, assisting government agencies, and most especially farmers and ranchers, will finally see the fruit of their labor as the 2004 Saipan Agriculture Fair unfolds today at the Civic Center in Susupe.
Kicking off the 25th Anniversary celebration are a series of game events. The curtain will be raised at 6pm, with participants pressing their luck in bingo games.
The cockfight event also opens at 6pm and will run through to midnight.
The official opening ceremony will be held tomorrow at 9am, featuring remarks from several dignitaries.
Activities tomorrow include judging of the Plant division from 6-9am, judging of the Animal division from 8-12pm; placing of ribbons on winners on the two divisions between 10am-2pm.
Tomorrow’s activities also include the Ba’tu events from 11am-6pm, Greasy Pig Contest at 4pm, the Greasy Pole Climbing Contest at 5pm, and the Coconut Husking/Grinding Competition at 6pm.
The Ba’tu events, Greasy Pig Chasing, Greasy Pole Climbing, and Coconut Husking/Grinding events will continue on Sunday, May 30 at the same times mentioned above.
The fair highlights the celebration of May as Mes Lancheros. The renovated 4-H Club Building will be used for the plant division, while the animal division will be featured at the field just east of the building and the ornaments at the Civic Center basketball court.
Farmers and ranchers began registering crops or animals last Monday, May 24. The deadline for the Animal division registration is tomorrow, May 29, while deadline for the Plant division is today at 10pm. Each person must pay a fee of $10 plus an additional $1 for each entry for both the Plant and Animal divisions.
