Garapan graduates 112 students
Garapan Elementary School held its graduation ceremony last night with teachers Marsha Owens and Beatrice Tualatai opening the floor to welcome family, relatives, and guests.
Pastor Alexis Lorzano led the invocation just before the opening remarks from the school’s Principal, Yvonne R. Gomez. Following her remarks was the commissioner of education, Dr. Rita H. Inos.
Ashley Castro, STUCO president, marched up on stage to introduce the keynote speaker of the night, Brenda Schultz. Schultz was recognized as the CNMI teacher of the year. She left the 112 graduating students with memories and advice for the challenges they will soon be facing.
Larra Ramos and Rotessa Sumpay led the graduates in their ceremonial song I Believe by Yoland Adams. Adding on to the students’ performance was a special number that was composed and performed by two graduates, Tharanton Masayos and Troy Santos, who took the audience by surprise with a rap song I’m Gonna Miss This School, accompanied by the ukulele.
The most outstanding Mallard Award was presented to students who had been the most outstanding in their class. Tricia Laborce, Peter Sablan, Antonette Cabrera, and Jesselyn Dris were a few of the graduates who received this award. The subject award, Presidential Academics award, recognition awards, and the Presidential Improvement awards were also presented to the students.
Recognized for their academic achievement were the five graduates with the highest GPA of their class: Mary Cris Waing, Jessilyn Dris, Ashley Castro, Cassandra Marquez, and Laura Ramos. The girls stood on stage to help welcome the top two graduates receiving the highest awards. The Principal’s award was presented to Cheska Salen, while Bernadette Laviste was granted the Commissioner’s award and the Science subject award.
Closing the ceremony with his gratitude and appreciation to the 6th grade teachers and graduates was vice principal Rachael Teregeyo. (Cassie Dlg Fejeran)
