Virtuoso pianist Roman Rudnytsky returns to Saipan this weekend for a performance at the USO-styled Camp Show that will be held as part of activities for the 60th anniversary of the World War II Battles of Saipan and Tinian.

If they miss his performance at the American Memorial Park, spectators have another shot at taking a glimpse of the prize-winning pianist during a concert at the Pacific Islands Club on Tuesday, June 15.

The concert unfolds at 7pm at the Charley’s Cabaret, with tickets costing $20 for adults and $10 for children.

According to Friends of the Arts president Melody Actouka, those who want to buy tickets in advance may also avail of special rates at the Magellan Room buffet—$22 for adults and $12.50 for children. Individuals must present proof of concert ticket purchase to avail of the buffet’s special rate.

Rudnytsky brings with him a special arrangement of military and patriotic music that would anchor The Camp Show on June 12 and 13 at the American Memorial Park Amphitheater.

Rudnytsky performed on Saipan in February 2002. He held a public concert and private performances for public and private schools.

Rudnytsky is an internationally active American concert pianist whose frequent performances take him around the globe. He has performed in over 80 countries. He has also appeared as a soloist with many orchestras around the world, and also conducts master classes and workshops for local piano students and teachers during the course of his travels.

Rudnytsky has also made numerous recordings in the United States, Australia, and Poland. Compact disc recordings will be available for purchase at the PIC concert.

Born in New York to a prominent Ukrainian musical family, Rudnytsky began the study of piano at age four and gave his first recital at age seven. He is a graduate of the Julliard School in New York and also studied at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland, and at master classes in Austria—the Mozarteum—and Italy.

Rudnytsky is a prizewinner in 10 piano competitions, including prestigious ones such as the International Leventritt Competition (New York) and International J.S. Bach Competition (Washington) and, in Italy, the F. Busoni and A. Casagrande international piano competitions.

He has been a member of the piano faculty of the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, since 1972. He was a recipient of the institution’s Distinguished Professor Award in recognition for his concert activities.
