Saipancell has moved to an adjacent commercial space in Gualo Rai, inaugurating its new store with a new concept, where customers can actually use cellular phone units and access the Internet for free.

On display inside the store are activated cellular phone units, four computer sets and a television screen.

“This is a more interactive store where people can come in, pick up the phone, look at their features and make phone calls,” said Kevin Seeker, Saipancell’s marketing director. “You can actually touch and feel the equipment and see how it works.”

Seeker said the store’s concept was patterned after that of the Guamcell store at the Micronesia Mall on Guam. “It’s very successful. People like it,” he added.

The display of activated cellphones includes the LG brand’s LX 6000 camera phone, which can be used to take pictures that can be sent to other camera phones or via email.

Soon, Seeker said Saipancell would create personalized websites for customers so that the pictures taken from the camera phone would be automatically posted on the website.

The LX 6000 is just among some 15 cellphone models currently available at the store. Seeker said Saipancell is constantly looking for new phone models to keep up with the trend in telecommunications.

A “push-to-talk” cellphone—a radio and phone packaged as one 3-inch long cellphone unit—is also available at the store. Saipancell also carries Air Card that allows for quick Internet access among traveling computer users, especially businessmen.

Acting CNMI Gov. Diego T. Benavente on Friday joined Saipancell’s executives during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new telecom outlet. Saipancell president Mark Chamberlain and his wife Mickey, as well as store manager Pauline Johnson, led the inauguration rites.

The company distributed free T-shirts to the first 100 customers, gave away free beach balls to kids, and offered certain cellphone models at discounted prices Friday.

Seeker also urged everyone to sign up and join Saipancell’s Club FX, which entails no membership fee but the privilege to get price discounts at the store. Soon, he said price discounts could also be availed of at establishments affiliated with Saipancell.

Membership forms are available at the store, or one may access Saipancell’s website, www.saipancell.com, to enlist for the Club FX.
