CPA asked for terminal fee waiver
The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has adopted a resolution asking the Commonwealth Ports Authority’s Board of Directors to waive the imposition of terminal fee on the ferry boat, which has been passed on to the passengers traveling between Saipan and Tinian.
According to Resolution No. 8SMC-2RS-80, the CPA should assist in the promotion and travel between the islands of Saipan and Tinian to strengthen and enhance economic growth in the two islands.
“The imposition of terminal fee on the ferry board has caused unnecessary financial burden on the passengers [that is] detrimental to the government’s plan to improve the ailing economy in the CNMI,” part of the resolution reads.
The resolution also stated that the imposition of a parking fee at the Joeten Memorial Commercial Port/Charlie Dock is reasonable to defray some costs at the seaport.
“In the interest of promoting, strengthening and enhancing economic growth in the two islands, the members of the Municipal Council strongly recommends waiving the imposition of terminal fee on the ferry boat,” it says.
The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chairman David A. Indalecia and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
