SML Playoffs rescheduled due to weather—again
Ugh! Just when things were starting to get good, Mother Nature had to come along and ruin what was promising to be an excellent first game of the Saipan Major League Playoffs between the Pirates and the Miller Lite Brewers at Francisco M. Palacios baseball field Monday evening.
The score was tied at three runs apiece, it was the fourth inning, and it was over, cancelled, finis, kaput. Three months of baseball had come down to a first round showdown, but now it is going to start all over—from scratch.
The first round of the playoffs have been rescheduled for a 6:30pm start on tonight at Francisco M. Palacios field. The second place Brewers (8-4) will take on the third place Pirates (6-6) in a best of three showdown to determine who will challenge the defending champion Northern Yankees for the SML Championship.
The Brewers and Pirates have played each other four times this year to a 2-2 draw, including the exciting contest last week during the make-up game in which the Pirates edged their rivals by a 7-5 score.
Players got the chance to warm up their rusty arms and size each other up, and if the weather holds, managers can make any necessary adjustments tonight’s Game 1. Game 2 is set to be played Friday, June 25, and a third game will be played Monday, June 28, if necessary. All games are set for 6:30 starts at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
