SML playoffs rescheduled due to weather
Will whoever is doing all of the rain dances take a couple of weeks off? Although the rain that the island has been receiving must surely have helped the local farming community, it is becoming more of an annoyance for the baseball community.
The first game of the Saipan Major League baseball playoffs was completed Wednesday evening as the Miller Lite Brewers sank the Pirates, 13-3. Since the weather is being somewhat less than its usually cooperative self, the Pirates will have to wait until Wednesday night to get their revenge.
Tonight’s SML baseball playoff match was postponed due field conditions that were termed as “unplayable” according to league coordinator Tony Rogolifoi. The steady rain that has been falling on Saipan during the last couple of weeks has left standing water on the infield, soggy grass in the outfield, and no players on any field.
If Mother Nature finds it in her heart to be kind, Game 2 will get underway Wednesday, June 30, at Francisco M. Palacios baseball field. Game 3 will be played Friday, July 2, if necessary.
The first to win two games will challenge the defending champion, Northern Yankees, for the SML Championship. All games are set for 6:30 starts at the Palacios Baseball Field.
