Disability seminars mark July as ADA month

The Developmental Disabilities TriAgency Network will be sponsoring a disability symposium that will span three weeks of the month in celebration of July as American with Disabilities Act Awareness Month.

With July 25, 2004 marked as ADA’s 14th anniversary, the Americans with Disabilities Act Symposium will have as its theme “Independence Day for People with Disabilities.”

Sessions will be provided by nationally and locally recognized experts on disability-related issues, including presenters and speakers from key agencies and organizations involved in the ADA. These are the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Access Board, Pacific Disability & Business ADA & IT Technical Assistance Center, The Arc, and the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities’ ADA Technical Assistance Support.

Sessions include Dealing with Persons with Disabilities for Judicial and Law Enforcement (DPS); ADA Title I: Employment, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, Accessible Information Technology (IT); ADA Titles II-V (Public Services, accommodations, telecommunications, transportation); ADA Accessibility Guidelines, Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards and the local Parking Act for Individuals with Disabilities.

The sessions are scheduled on July 12-15, 19-23, and 26-28 and will be held on Saipan.

These sessions are considered a must for ADA coordinators, architects, engineers, building code officials, licensing boards, school officials and personnel, managers, supervisors, judicial system personnel, including attorneys/paralegals, contractors, commercial building owners, building inspectors, human resource managers, education policymakers, employers, business owners, lodging managers, federal agencies, CIP project officials, safety officers, consumers, and advocates.
