The Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture will collaborate with Pacific Resources for Education and Learning to bring training on Standards-based Art Education to the CNMI next week.

The art education institute “Weaving Pacific Art into Classroom Training” will be held in Rota on July 15-16, 2004, in conjunction with the Pacific Education Conferen. Another workshop will be on Saipan on Saturday, July 17, from 8am to 5pm, at the CNMI Gallery for Arts and Culture. The objective of the institute is to train educators in methodology for using new Pacific Art in island classroom lending boxes. The training is free and interested artists, museum educators and other individuals are encouraged to register with the Arts Council at 670-322-9982/3.

Institute participants will be introduced to standards-based arts education and learn how to translate it into exciting art experience; get a sneek peek at the Pacific Arts Lending boxes available to schools; learn exciting ways to integrate Pacific Art into classroom curriculum; and receive information on free samples of education resources available to all classrooms (Pacific Arts CD-ROMS, videos, slides and materials). Training will be conducted by Dr. Lori Phillips of PREL.

The Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture is a division of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.
