The Coastal Resources Management Office and the Division of Environmental Quality recently hired seven summer internship students.

Funded by the Coral Reef Initiative, the goal of the internship is to provide postsecondary students with hands-on experience working in natural resources management.

James Arriola, Ray Camacho, Anselmo Celis, and John Dax Moreno are working at the CRM office on a variety of different projects. These include mapping of recreation areas within the Saipan lagoon, developing coral reef outreach and education materials, revising abandoned vessel regulations, and mapping and analyzing permit sitings.

At DEQ, Greg Castro, Vicenta Quitugua, and Vina Suarez are working on water quality analysis, long-term marine monitoring projects, and the creation of non-point source pollution public outreach materials.

The interns will present the results of their work on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at 10am in the CRM conference room. The public is encouraged to attend.

The internship program occurs yearly, and is open to high school graduates and college students. For more information, contact Qamar Schuyler, Coral Outreach Specialist, at 664-8300.
