A 27-year-old man drowned off the waters of the Tanapag Social Hall Beach Sunday evening.

According to Public Safety officer James Omar and Norbert Pua, victim Guo Shan Jin and eight of his friends were swimming at the beach at about 3pm. An hour and a half later, the victim’s friends noticed that he was missing. They immediately went back to the water to search for the victim but they could not find him.

About an hour later, Ivan Dela Cruz, a local fisherman, arrived and, when told of the missing person, went out on his boat to look for Guo. He found the victim about 60 feet from the shore. The victim was reportedly submerged in the water face down.

The victim was taken to shore where the EMS personnel tried to revive him. He was then brought to the Commonwealth Health Center, where Dr. Dewayne Coad pronounced the victim dead at about 5:25pm. (Cassie DLG Fejeran)
