ADA, judicial system: Dealing with persons with disabilities
The Developmental Disabilities Tri-Agency Network composed of the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities, Northern Marianas Protection and Advocacy Systems Inc., and the Northern Marianas College University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities have begun sessions that ultimately aim to assist people with disabilities in the CNMI. The first session was held in the World Resort Hotel early yesterday morning.
Brenda L. King from The Arc of the Pikes Peal Region in Colorado presented information on the Special Offenders’ Coalition for policy makers on Saipan, and brought to the fore issues affecting people with developmental disabilities.
The Arc is the national organization of and for people with mental retardation and related developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc is devoted to promoting and improving supports and services for people with mental retardation and their families.
The first session taught judicial branch personnel, government and private attorneys and paralegals on appropriate legal actions that could be done to help people with disabilities.
Other sessions include transportation provided by private businesses, telecommunications relay services, ADA and law enforcement, and employment for people with disabilities.
Sessions on traumatic brain injury, social security benefits, ADA, and parking access law will be held on Tinian and Rota on June 28 and 30. (Cassie Dlg Fejeran)
