A commitment to the environment

In this day and age when companies are deemed successes based just on their bottom line, Crowne Plaza Resort is a company that takes its responsibility to the community a notch higher.

As part of IHG Hotels & Resorts, the global hotel brand whose network of properties spans more than 100 countries ran by a 345,000-strong workforce, Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan is committed to what it believes is its purpose—the delivery of True Hospitality for Good.

“IHG has strong commitments to drive change for people, communities, and the planet through its ‘Journey to Tomorrow’ initiative,” said Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan general manager Clayton Darlington.

This 10-year responsible business plan is IHG’s manifesto of care for both its guests and team, and in partnership with hotel owners, to protect the environment and give back to communities where they do business. Ultimately, IHG would like to create a future of responsible travel that champions a diverse culture where all stakeholders enjoy equality, inclusion, and fairness.

Among the programs in which the resort takes an active part in is “Green Engage,” an innovative online program that allows individual hotels to measure the impact of the day-to-day hotel operation on the environment.

“I am happy to share that the resort is on track in our 2023 energy reduction targets,” said Darlington.

Another environmental initiative that Crowne Plaza implements is the “Greener Stay” program that incentivizes guests to conserve energy and water, reduce waste, and reuse products such as towels and linen to help reduce the resort’s impact on the environment.

“Sustainability and caring for our environment will always be high priorities for the resort. In line with this, we use sustainable products, do regular beach cleanups and the resort recently opened a new herb garden, upcycling materials to create the garden to produce herbs for the chefs to use in our kitchens,” Darlington said.

In addition, initiatives like using bulk bathroom amenities instead of single-use plastic bottles have a very big impact over a 12-month period.

“It’s important to keep guests and staff updated on what we’re doing, the more committed people are the bigger the impact,” he said.
