AMIM passes resolution congratulating new UOG president

The Association of Mayors, Vice Mayors and Municipal Council adopted Resolution No. 2023-28-01 recognizing and congratulating Dr. Anita Borja-Enriquez on the occasion of her investiture as president of the University of Guam at the Calvo Field House in Mangilao, Guam last Nov. 14.

The resolution also recognized the new UOG president’s exemplary leadership and achievement as the second Chamorro woman in UOG’s 70-year history of service and leadership in academia serving the Marianas and Micronesia.

AMIM was established to promote, preserve, strengthen, and celebrate the cultural traditions and heritage of the people of the Mariana Islands as well serve as a forum for collaborative partnership among the Mariana Islands through their elected municipal government leaders.

The AMIM resolution expresses pride and joins the university community in celebrating the investiture of Borja-Enriquez as the 12th president of UOG.

It also recognizes Borja-Enriquez’s achievement as the second Chamorro woman president of UOG in its 70-year history as an institution of higher learning in Micronesia and applauds her 30-year journey at the university as its senior vice president and provost, and the first Chamorro dean of the UOG School of Business and Public Administration for 10 years prior to taking on the helm as its president.

The resolution applauds the president’s stewardship in the preservation of the Marianas-native ifit tree on campus during the Nov. 13, 2023 ceremonial ifit-tree planting at UOG’s President Grove, and noted that the planting of the hardwood tree is the epitome of the passion and commitment by Borja-Enriquez in caring for and nurturing the young ifit tree grow to maturity, the same passion and commitment the she has applied over time in helping the youths successfully matriculate at the university as its senior vice president and provost, and the cumulative experience and skill sets the new UOG president is expected to perform for the youths of the Marianas and Micronesia to receive the best well-rounded higher education.

AMIM describes Borja-Enriquez as a woman who is determined and strongly rooted in the cultural traditions and heritage of the people of the Mariana Islands, and more importantly practices the Chamorro cultural traditions in inadahi, inina, na’i animu, and inafa’maolek.

The resolution was passed when AMIM held its annual meeting in Agat, Guam last Nov. 29. (PR)
