All women invited to Women’s Wellness Walkathon
The Women’ Affairs Office, under the Office of the Governor, is inviting all women in the CNMI to join the Women’s Wellness Walkathon this Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at the Smiling Cove Marina in Puerto Rico.
The walkathon will be in partnership with the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. and will also include blood pressure and sugar count checks. The walkathon is set to begin at 6am and will continue until 9am. Participants’ starting point will be at Smiling Cove Marina where they will walk to the Gov. Eloy S. Inos Peace Park before circling back.
Women’s Affairs Office special assistant Barbara Sablan shared the genesis of the Women’s Wellness Walkathon.
“The CNMI Women’s Affairs Office wanted to plan this event as a start in promoting the fact that health is very crucial, especially among women. As women in the CNMI, we are often labelled as ‘mothers of the land,’ and so when we realize that, we need to continue to keep healthy.”
She went on to invite all women to partake in the Women’s Wellness Walkathon.
“I wanted to invite women to come and join us on this walk to promote healthier living, both physically and mentally, since it’s very important for not only ourselves but in the long run it does also benefit our families and peers.”
All women are welcome to grab their running shoes and join the walk—everyone at their own pace.
Sablan said the Women’s Wellness Walkathon will have a free registration on the event day itself at the Smiling Cove Marina.
“[We want] to just see the numbers participants and for the office to be able to contact those who are interested for upcoming events,” she said.
