Auto-pedestrian accident injures woman in CK
A 48-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle in an auto-pedestrian accident on Beach Road, Chalan Kanoa last Tuesday evening.
According to the Department of Public Safety, officers responding to a separate incident came upon the scene in front of the Lucky Star Market at approximately 7:02pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was crossing the road from the former Jin Zhou Car Wash when she was hit by a Toyota CH-R exiting the parking lot of the Lucky Super Market. The vehicle, driven by a 21-year-old male, was traveling south at the time. According to the driver, poor visibility due to heavy rain and low lighting conditions caused confusion, leading him to initially believe he had struck a traffic cone. It was only after other motorists honked to alert him that he realized the gravity of the situation.
The pedestrian sustained a fractured left ankle and was quickly transported to the Commonwealth Health Center by the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services. She was treated at CHC and later discharged.
Further investigation revealed that the pedestrian was intoxicated at the time of the incident, while the driver was found to be sober and not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. No citations were issued to either party, and the case remains under investigation.
DPS urges both drivers and pedestrians to exercise extra caution, especially in poor weather conditions, to prevent similar accidents from occurring.
