Ayuyus claim 1st boys HS softball title

The Kagman High School Ayuyus slugged their way to the championship of the Inaugural SBL-PSS Interscholastic Boys High School Slow Pitch Softball League 2023-2024.

The Ayuyus were undefeated throughout the season and faced off against Rota’s Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Jr./Sr. High School Bucks in the finals and won, 12-8, last Dec. 2 at the Capital Hill Softball Field.

It was a close game as both teams were evenly matched, but the Ayuyus showed why they were undefeated and pulled away in the sixth inning with Angelo Igitol’s explosive grand slam for a commanding 12-6 lead.

The Bucks tried to make for a comeback but the six-run deficit was too big an ordeal to overcome and they could only spare two more runs in the last inning.

The Ayuyus’ power lineup of U17 national team baseball players overpowered the softball diamond from the start of the season until the finals. Jon Diaz and Justin Camacho scored two runs in KHS’ first at bat against RHI followed by a solo homer by Diaz in the second inning to lead, 3-0.

However, the Bucks replied at the bottom of the second and took a 1-run lead after three runs scored at the bottom of the lineup, plus a home run from the leadoff batter.

From there on out though, the Ayuyus continued to bring in runs as their defense held long enough to take the first boys high school softball title.

The Ayuyus were made up of Igitol, Diaz, Camacho, Achilles Evangelista, Jeremiah Suel III, Joell Borja, Chris Diaz, Andre Iguel, Justin Camacho, Terrel Rabago, and Noah Aguon.
