Bathroom bomb note sparks lockdown

After a recent bomb threat at the Francisco M. Sablan Middle School in San Antonio caused a lockdown at the school Friday morning, the case remains under investigation.

According to DPS assistant chief of police and acting public information officer Simon T. Manacop, police were notified of a bomb threat at the school at around 10:30am just hours after school started.

CPA Ports Police explosive K-9s were also called in to assist police officer on site as the school went under tight lockdown.

Manacop stated that officers and K-9s did a sweep of the school before giving an “all clear” around two hours later.

According to police the threat had been made through a note found in the school’s bathroom.

“The threat was made through a note which was left inside a restroom.” said Manacop. “I won’t be able to share the exact message since the case is still under investigation, but the details [of the note] involved threat by bomb.”

Manacop said that as of now the case remains under investigation, and therefore he wasn’t able to give more details, including whether or not they have possible suspects.

He did share warning for those who send or leave bomb threats at schools or anywhere.

“If caught, the perpetrators can be charged with ‘terroristic threatening,’ and if convicted may be sentenced to a term not to exceed 10 years, a fine not to exceed $10,000, or both,” he said.

Due to a bomb threat, Department of Public Safety officers vehicles block off the Francisco M. Sablan Middle School in San Antonio last Friday.
