Border Control turns back Rizzlers in Round 8 of Rocball league

The game between Border Control and Rizzlers was the highlight of Rounds 8 of competition in the 41st Annual Rocball League last week at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

In that game, Border Control came back from a 13-15 first set loss to win the second set, 19-13, and ultimately pulled off the win, 32-28. With eight rounds and 40 games completed, this year’s Rocball teams will complete the nine rounds of 45 games after spring break.

In the first game of Round 8, Bolley Ballerz defeated Spicey Locals, 40-24; Aces defeated Chagii Fahn, 63-17; Topshakaz was able to squeak out a 23-22 win over Quest; and Nesian Power was forced into overset (overtime) before they were able win their game against Baddie-Z team.

So far in the team standings, Bolley Ballerz is way in front with a 7-1 win-loss card followed by Topshakaz and Spicey Locals at 6-2 and 5-3, respectively. Nesian Power, Border Control, Quest, Aces, and Baddie-Z are all tied at 4-4, while Chagi Fahn and Rizzlers bring up the rear with standings of 1-7 and 0-8, respectively.

In just five games of play, the MHS Rocball players have scored 60 2-point serves, six 2-point backcourt plays, one defensive play called the “jam” where a frontline player spikes down a served ball, 19 3-point goals, and dozens of 1-point court plays.

The sport of Rocball is unique in that it is the very first team net sport in the world to invent and incorporate 3-point scoring plays seven years before the NBA created their 3-point scoring plays in 1979, and a rally point scoring system with unrestricted hitting and kicking 15 years before FIVB came out with their rule changes in 1995. Proof of Rocball’s innovative court design, scoring system, and game-winning features have been documented and registered copyrighted several times with the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. since 1980.
