CHCC schooled in inter-gov’t/biz caging

Team PSS proved they are not just brains but also brawn as they schooled CHCC, 88-49, in the Inaugural R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Gov’t/Business League 2023 Tuesday afternoon at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

It was an equal matchup in the first quarter as the showdown between educators and healthcare providers raged on in the court. Tied at 11-11 by end of the first quarter, none was superior to the other—yet.

Then, PSS showed they had more firepower heading into the second quarter and pulled away with back-to-back shots by Tyler Palacios and a couple of 3-pointers by sharpshooter Preston Basa and Poland Masaharu.

CHCC was stuck at a low-scoring 11-point second quarter with PSS’ defensive command and accuracy with their attempts. Basa led the team from the outskirts as he made five baskets from 3-point territory, while Masaharu tore up the paint with 10 markers.

D.J. Ong of CHCC did as much as he could to get them out of the gutters with his team-high 16 points, but it wasn’t enough to catch up to PSS’ hugely inflated 63-36 third quarter.

PSS put a stop to CHCC’s run for a comeback and held them off to just 13 points, while PSS scored 25 more in the last quarter.

In the other game that night, Docomo Pacific won a close 56-45 game against CUC.

Docomo was better together with Shane Deleon Guerrero at the helm as he scored 31 of his team’s 56 points. Meanwhile, CUC’s main shooter was John Santos with 13 markers.

PSS 88 – Basa 16, Masaharu 10, Poole 9, T. Palacios 9, Olopai 9, Villagomez 7, Winkfield 7, E. Palacios 6, Valencia 5, Cabrera 4, Mendiola 4, Ferrari 2.

CHCC 49 – Ong 16, Tudela 8, Manglona 6, Lizama 5, Sablan 5, Lisua 4, Phillip 2, Ogarto 2, Nunez 1.

Scoring by quarters: 11-11, 34-22, 63-36, 88-49.
