CHCC threatened by potential data breach

The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. was recently threatened by a potential breach in its system that could’ve compromised sensitive patient information. Fortunately, CHCC’s Health Information Technology department managed to safeguard CHCC’s network infrastructure before that could happen.

Over the weekend, Saipan Tribune was forwarded a site warning that CHCC’s internal servers may have experienced a complete data breach that compromised its data, including sensitive patient data.

CHCC, in a statement yesterday, said the entire healthcare sector itself has been experiencing cyberattacks in the last few weeks.

“Over the past few weeks, the healthcare sector has experienced a surge in cyberattacks, posing significant threats to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of sensitive medical data,” CHCC said. “These attacks have targeted hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities, compromising patient information, disrupting critical services, and potentially jeopardizing patient safety.”

CHCC became faced with the same threat, but thanks to its swift actions, CHCC managed to protect all sensitive data.

“The CHCC was recently threatened by potential data exfiltration, but with much diligence, all security measures are being employed to prevent any further threats and protect all data,” said CHCC.

The healthcare sector has also enlisted the help of federal agencies to thoroughly investigate the cyberattacks.

“We prioritize safeguarding the privacy of our patients and CHCC is currently evaluating the threat and working with authorities ensuring we are in compliance with federal laws. In collaboration with CNMI Homeland Security and other federal agencies, a thorough investigation remains in place to confirm the nature of the threat, and security measures are being implemented,” said CHCC.

In the meantime, CHCC warns patients not to engage with any communication or activity involving CHCC that may seem suspicious.

“If you’ve received any communications regarding suspicious activities of a similar nature, it’s imperative that you refrain from further engagement as we continue to work with authorities,” said CHCC.

CHCC also assures its patients that there are no disruptions to clinical and emergency services.

“Critical patient care will continue without interruption, and our healthcare professionals are committed to providing the best possible care under these challenging circumstances. CHCC remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services and ensuring the security of patient data,” said CHCC.
