CNMI SLDS staff participates in Pacific Entities Meeting
HONOLULU, Hawaii—CNMI Statewide Longitudinal Data System staff members, Dr. Annette Pladevega-Sablan, Jeaniffer Cubangbang, Ferdinand Ngirmekur, alongside Acting SPED director Nora Fujihira, State Infrastructure Technology director Jesse Tenorio, and Federal Programs officer Jacqueline Che, proudly joined representatives from Guam, American Samoa, Hawaii Department of Education, and Hawai’i Data eXchange team at the Pacific Entities Meeting held in Honolulu, Hawaii, from Sept. 11 to 14, 2023.
The Pacific Entities Meeting brought together experts and stakeholders in the education data sector with the overarching goal of enhancing the sustainability of Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems. The event was marked by its comprehensive objectives and a series of engaging workshops aimed at providing participants with essential knowledge and tools to bolster SLDS sustainability efforts.
Participants gained insights into the foundational aspects of SLDS sustainability and learned how to leverage SLDS tools to support sustainability planning efforts. Teams completed their SLDS sustainability self-assessment and devised strategies to create or enhance their SLDS sustainability plans. The group identified future technical assistance needs essential for supporting sustainability planning and implementation. Teams learned how to establish and implement effective data access policies and processes, ensuring the responsible handling of sensitive information. Participants acquired knowledge on developing a privacy-friendly research agenda, aligning data utilization with ethical considerations. Additionally, participants delved into their roles in data security, exploring risk mitigation strategies, and engaged in workshops that covered various critical topics.
This collaborative effort was marked by fruitful discussions and shared insights, fostering a stronger network among education data professionals in the Pacific region.
Pladevega-Sablan, speaking on behalf of the CNMI SLDS team, expressed their enthusiasm for the event, stating, “The Pacific Entities Meeting has been a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. We are excited to apply the insights gained to further enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of our SLDS initiatives in CNMI.”
The event’s success highlights the commitment of CNMI SLDS and its partner entities to ensure the continued growth and effectiveness of Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems, ultimately benefiting education and data-driven decision-making in the Pacific region.
