Child critical condition after near-drowning
A young tourist is in critical condition after a near-drowning incident at the Kensington Hotel in San Roque last Sunday.
In a press release yesterday, the Department of Public Safety shared that emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after 2:56pm last Oct. 27, following reports of an unresponsive child pulled from the hotel pool.
Witnesses said the child, who was vacationing on Saipan with family, was found unconscious in the water by friends.
Lifeguards immediately administered CPR until Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services medics arrived, taking over life-saving measures. Though the child regained breathing, they remained unresponsive as DFEMS transported the young tourist to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. where they continue to receive care.
The Department of Public Safety renews calls for water safety for all, tourists and residents. DPS expressed concern and reminded both locals and visitors to practice caution around water, adding that while they are committed to providing timely response in emergencies, they want to remind the community and visitors to stay vigilant and prioritize safety—whether that means supervising children closely or following posted safety rules. DPS also urged everyone to enjoy the CNMI’s beautiful waters responsibly.
DPS also continues to emphasize its commitment to ensuring public safety and urges the community to practice caution not only in recreational activities but also in their day-to-day routines.
Due to protocol and privacy policies, the identity of the child is not released to the public, but DPS shared that as of yesterday afternoon, the child remains in critical condition.
